Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.
Abertay University are currently recruiting for a full-time (fixed-term) Learning Development Advisor.
As a member of a small but dynamic team the successful candidate will work to empower students to develop their skills and study strategies so they can maximise their learning potential and succeed academically. The team provides a high quality and inclusive range of skills support to students on a one-to-one basis, in co-curricular workshops and classes, and through embedded sessions within the curriculum, using online tools to support this delivery where required.
In addition, we also provide EAP support and guidance to our students whose first language is not English, helping to deliver the Masters in Professional Practice Orientation Programme (MPPOP), in partnership with academic colleagues. This is a bespoke pre-sessional programme designed for Chinese students intending to study on the University’s MProf in Games Design, usually delivered face-to-face at Pixseed, a digital arts school in Beijing, but which is currently taught online.
With an awareness of the challenges faced by students at various stages of their academic careers, the successful applicant will have experience of teaching in a UK higher education institution, preferably developing students’ academic skills. Experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes outside the UK (ideally in China) is also essential, as is a good undergraduate degree, while the following qualifications are desirable: DELTA or a Trinity Diploma in TESOL, or a Masters degree in linguistics, TESOL or TEAP.
In addition to having the appropriate knowledge and experience, the successful applicant will have excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of academic staff and students to support curriculum and learning needs.
