Abertay University, in Dundee, Scotland, is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. In 2013 we marked the 125th anniversary of our foundation as an institution dedicated to supporting science, industry and the professions with a distinctive interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach to teaching, research and knowledge exchange.
The University now seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Game Art within the Division of Games and Arts, part of the School of Design and Informatics.
The School of Design and Informatics consists of three divisions: the Division of Games and Arts, the Division of Games Technology and Mathematics, and the Division of Cybersecurity and is the home of Abertay's undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in games, digital arts, cybersecurity and applied computer science. Abertay was the first university to offer degrees in Computer Games and Ethical Hacking, and continues to be recognised as an international leader in its fields. The school is designated the National Centre of Excellence in Computer Games Education, and has pioneered integrated cross-disciplinary practice-based learning through its 'workplace simulation' approach to teaching and learning. The school has consistently featured in the Princeton Review's listing of the world's top games courses and is recognised as the best school in Europe to study game design and development. Exciting R&D and knowledge exchange opportunities are offered through InGAME, an AHRC funded Creative Industries Clusters project with local, and multinational games companies and cyberQuarter, a government funded R&D centre for cyber security innovation. These projects put Abertay University at the heart of a GBP 35M investment in Dundee's digital economy and the regional R&D capacity.
The Division of Games and Arts is home to Abertay's research and teaching in game design, computer arts, and sound and music for games. Academic staff in the division have pursued research on a diverse range of themes, including games with purpose, interactive design in the performing arts, experimental game jams, and game aesthetics. Reporting to the Head of Division, you will provide high-quality, research-informed teaching across all of our creative programmes, with a particular focus on delivering specialist content within our Computer Arts and Game Design and Production degrees, and conduct research in your field that contributes to Abertay's strategic interests within the creative industries and digital arts.
